Wanderful Rundown: thoughts on Komugi

Welcome to the first ‘thoughts on’ special. This time we’re talking about the pink of Wanderful, Komugi Inukai

Now Komugi is a Papillon, a breed of the Spaniel type of dog, also known as a Continental Toy Spaniel, being the oldest reported breed known.
Now it’s not known at this point how long Komugi has been a part of Iroha’s life(or at least not that I can recall) but given her childish behaviour in human form, it doesn’t seem to be very long. Alternatively it could just be her being shocked at her new form

For her personality so far, being a dog, she is incredibly loyal to Iroha(and probably the other girls on the team + maybe Satoru and Daifuku if the rumours of them being the mid seasons are correct) with a hint of childishness, but the source is unknown, also underlying a sense of how animals feel, best described in her words to the first Garugaru during what is somewhat of a fight, but not really, as Toei doesn’t want to be seen endorsing animal abuse. Now compared to her MANY predecessors(Sora, Yui, Manatsu, Nodoka, Hikaru, Hana, Ichika, Mirai, Haruka, Megumi, Mana, Miyuki, Hibiki, Tsubomi, Love, Nozomi, Saki and Nagisa) she does feel like she has the most room to grow, given that aside from barking and growling, Komugi didn’t say a single word until she transformed, whereas you get a vague impression of how the prior leads act from their first episode. However this is not to undermine the fact I feel that Komugi has the most character growth potential, as most can by summed up in one sentence
"Takoyaki obsessed Lacrosse star"
"Girl unsure of her own future, so latches on to helping others"
"Mary Sue who wants to become PM"
Yes, that is grossly oversimplifying things, but you get my point, when you see one after their season(or a few episodes) you get a good feel for them so can answer the "explain (insert cure here) in one sentence". But when your first episode doesn’t give too much of a view into how your character works and seems to revolve around another character for 90% of the run time(seriously, ep 1 was an Iroha focus episode that also happened to set things up) it leaves the gross oversimplification on the harder end
Maybe when the series comes to an end, I’ll be able to report on my initial thoughts and how the series challenged said thoughts
Anyhow, this is Cure Ranger, signing off
